Every woman wants to have perfectly shaped and firm breasts throughout her life. Unfortunately, this is not always possible in most cases. Breast sagging is a natural phenomenon that goes mostly with age, wherein breasts lose their plumpy and elastic appearance.

Though breast sagging usually start happening after a woman reaches 40, it can occur earlier. There are many factors that cause saggy breasts such as breastfeeding, pregnancy, menopause, rapid weight loss or gain, stressful exercise, malnutrition, age, bad habits, wearing wrong sized bra, alcohol, illness, smoking, and so on.

However, arming yourself with the right dos and donts, and carefully following it can really be of great help in maintaining firm breasts even after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Form a habit of drinking lots of water daily to hydrate the skin.
  • If you are overweight, lose weight gradually. Excessive body weight also causes the skin to stretch and breasts to sag.
  • Avoid drastic weight loss within a short time, as it can cause breasts to sag.
  • Observe regular exercise. Exercise like chest press, butterfly chest, lady’s pushup, wall pushup, arms raise and dumbbell fly can strengthen the pectoral muscles that support the breast.
  • Also engage in swimming as it is a great exercise to firm breasts.
  • Avoid bending forward, jogging and running without wearing a supportive bra.
  • Do massage your breast with olive oil or honey; and wash off after 20 minutes before going to bed, at least 4 times a week.
  • Do not directly expose your breasts to the sun without sunscreen. Sunlight can lead to loss of skin elasticity.
  • Apply sunscreen on your breasts whenever you are wearing a tank top or strapless.
  • Avoid smoking to improve overall health and to protect the fragile skin of the breasts.
  • Always sit straight and walk straight, without drooping. Wrong posture encourage breasts sagging.
  • Always wear the right fitting bra to provide enough support for your breasts.
  • Always Wear a sports bra during any exercise causes the breasts to bounce, such as playing tennis, jogging, running, etc
  • Give it a break, too much of bra encourages breast sagging too, by weakening the breast’s supporting tissue. Go braless during mild home chores and while going to bed.
  • Eat healthy foods with essential nutrients like proteins, vitamins, calcium, minerals, carbohydrates and essential fats that are required to firm up the breasts.

Breasts do not have muscles inside. They are made of fat, connective tissues and milk-producing glands, hence the need for proper care in order to maintain the plump appearance of the breast.

Regular exercises like chest press, lady’s pushup, arms raise, dumbbell fly, wall push up, and butterfly chest can really strengthen the pectoral muscles that support the breast.
