Check Your SIM Registration Status & Date: Airtel, Glo, MTN & 9Mobile

The Nigerian Telecommunication Commission, NCC, SIM Card registration rush and queue has come and gone, but SIM registration itself has continued to linger, since Nigerians have continued to buy new GSM lines on a daily basis.

So, if you just purchased and/or registered a new SIM card, how do you know if the SIM Card was registered successfully?

Detailed in this post is how to check your Airtel, Glo, MTN and 9Mobile SIM Registration Status and the Date the SIM Card was registered. Check your network SIM registration status codes here.

How to check your Airtel SIM Registration status

Until recently, you had to call Airtel Nigeria customer care number (111) or send email to [email protected] before you can confirm if your Airtel line has been successfully registered or not. Good news is that you can now check Airtel sim registration status by dialing a USSD code on your Airtel line.

The Airtel Nigeria SIM registration check code is *746#. Do the following to check:

Dial *746# on your Airtel line.

If registered, you will see a message like “(Airtel number) was registered on (so date) on the Airtel network”.

How to check if your MTN SIM Card is Registered

Send REG as a message to 789. After sending the text to 789 with your MTN SIM card. You will get a success reply confirming that you have been registered if it was actually registered, otherwise, you get a “not registered” message.

Hence, if your sim number have been registered, you will get a service message from MTN saying:


2348031231565 has been registered. Thank you!

2348031231565 is your phone number!

How to check if your 9Mobile SIM has been Registered

For 9Mobile, you can verify your SIM card registration status by calling 746 or 200.

How to Check if your Glo Line is Registered

For Glo, just send REG to 3456 as a message. If your line has been registered, you’ll receive a message that looks like the one below:

Your SIMCARD +2348051111555 has been registered. Thank You!

How to Check Your SIM Registration Date

As of the time of writing this post, only Airtel network is able to display the date of SIM Card Registration or Activation. To check the date your Airtel line was registered on the Airtel network, simply dial the USSD code *746#.

Nigeria SIM card registration was officially launched on 28 March, 2011 following concerns raised by Nigerian security agencies to Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over difficulty and inability to trace criminal elements who use unregistered phone lines to carry out their unlawful and criminal activities.
