Ooni Of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Crowned In Secret

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ojaja II of Ife has been crowned in secret. The Ooni is said to have been crowned early today, November 23, 2015, in a very secretive traditional ceremony, according to The Nation.

Ooni Of Ife First Public Appearance
After returning from the forest last night with the traditional crown called Aare, which is believed to be given to the new Ooni by the gods for haven fulfilled all traditional rites, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) was crowned today.

“Ooni gives crowns to traditional rulers and he is not expected to receive one like others. His crowning is usually done in secrecy or confidence, not in the open,” a source said.

“And traditionally, whoever is pronounced by the king makers and the government becomes the Ooni. He does not need to wait till he undergoes rites and crowned before he is referred to as Ooni,” the source added.

The 40 years old Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of the Giesi ruling house replaced Oba Sijuwade, 85, who died in London in July 2015 after over three decades on the throne of the popular Ife Kingdom.
